LET’S HELP PROTECT WHAT WE LOVE.

We need to take actions to help save water and help make a difference to climate change for our future generations, environment and ecosystems.

LET’S HELP PROTECT WHAT WE LOVE

As the planet continues to experience global warming, the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident. Scientists predict that this will manifest itself in the form of more frequent and intense periods of drought and flooding, the melting of glaciers, and changes in the patterns of rain and snowfall1. New Zealand is considered water-rich when compared to global standards2, so it’s easy to see why many of us may take it for granted. However, this abundance may not be consistent throughout the year. It can vary significantly from month to month and year to year. This means that while New Zealand may have an abundance of water now, it could quickly become scarce in months or years to come. Therefore, it is important to be mindful of water usage and take steps to help conserve this precious resource.

WHY DO WE NEED TO CONSERVE WATER?

Water is an essential resource. Without it, life would not be possible and neither would modern society. While it may feel like we have an endless supply of water in New Zealand, it is still important to be mindful of our water use – even during times of intense rainfall. This is because our wastewater infrastructure is designed to handle a certain amount of water, and when too much water is present, stormwater drains can become overwhelmed. This can lead to issues such as flooding and water damage. Conserving water helps to protect our infrastructure, our health, and the health of the ecosystems around us. It also encourages us to form better habits which, in the long run, may help us become more resilient to climate change in the future.

AOTEAROA

In Aotearoa, we’re surrounded by water. It’s part of what makes our country so unique; it supports our agricultural industries and provides us with the lifestyles we cherish. Water is in our DNA, so any chance us Kiwis get, we are in the water, whether it’s fishing, water skiing or mastering the ultimate dive bomb.

GLOBALLY

Globally, a third of the world’s urban population is already facing water shortages, and this proportion will rise to almost half by 20503 . In the next three decades, the need for water will increase from 50 to 80%3 and that supply may become limited.

FINISH

Finish, both locally and globally, is committed to educating about ways to help save water, by inspiring smarter water use. For example, Finish dishwashing tablets’ power cleaning formulations mean you don’t need to pre-rinse your dishes. And by skipping the pre-rinse, you could save up to 40 litres of water per load4.

Now we’re asking for you to help with our mission. Sign up to the Finish, Skip The Pre-Rinse Pledge, and help us make a difference.

Once you become conscious of your household’s water consumption, making small adjustments can make a huge impact. Simply skipping the pre-rinse can save you up to 40L of water per load4 and turning the tap off while brushing your teeth could save up to 5 litres6! Doing little things to help save water is that easy!

Join us and become part of the Finish Skip The Pre-rinse Pledge. We’re challenging households to practice smarter water habits and help reduce their water use. You’ll not only be impacting Aotearoa’s water resources by decreasing your usage amount, but the payoff may also arrive in your reduced water bills. Plus, we also have prizes up for grabs for nine lucky winners!
